It worked! Somewhat trickier was the rice dish. But this one, with its 12 cloves of peeled garlic, takes some pretty deft fine motor skills and a fairly hefty tolerance for a less-than-desirable scent getting deep under your fingernails. But the dish, once all those pesky root vegetables had been dealt with, was a hit—particularly with the crowd of pre-K munchkins that came over to share it with us. I do, however, sometimes supplement the Sunday leftovers with a vegetable, and this one seemed fairly doable.

Until I looked at the timeline, and realized that this, too, was not going to be easily executable with my crunched nighttime timeline.
